February Focus: Compassion Under Pressure
by Amie Lipscomb, Training Coordinator

February is often associated with hearts, love, and connection...but in the world of public safety communications, compassion shows up a little differently.
Every shift, telecommunicators answer the phone for people on what may be the worst da of their lives. We show patience when callers are frustrated, calm when situations are chaotic, and empathy even when emotions ae high. That kind of compassion isn't always loud or obvious - it's steady, professional, and incredibly powerful
Compassion also extends beyond the calls we answer. It is found in how we support one another during tough shifts, how we offer grace when someone is having an off day, and how we communicate with professionalism instead of frustration. In a high-stress environment like a PSAP, choosing kindness, especially under pressure, makes a real difference.
As we move through this February, let this be a reminder that empathy is strength, not a weakness. Whether it's toward a caller, a responder, or a coworker sitting next to you, compassion helps keep your center running smoothly and your team strong.
Thank you for the care, patience, and heart you bring to your job every day.
